an annual holiday party for thousands of underprivileged kids

The 2016 Motion for Kids Holiday Party was held on December 10 at Chaifetz Arena. This is a partnership project between the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis, the Saint Louis Bar Foundation, the St. Louis Blues, St. Louis Cardinals, Saint Louis University and the Isaac Bruce Foundation. Approximately 2,000 underprivileged kids were served during this party where each child received a gift bought specifically for them, visited with Santa, met Billiken players, Fred Bird, Louie and more, got to enjoy a hot dog meal and so much more fun!

A Message from the St. Louis Bar Foundation President

A Great Start for a New Era of Reaching Kids

Sometimes a story is not just a story. Sometimes people live the story.  That is what happened this year for Motion for Kids, a wonderful program which the St. Louis Bar Foundation and BAMSL, its parent organization, have been involved in for more than three decades.

You know this part of the story – in early 2016, we all learned the St. Louis Rams were leaving town to head out to the West coast.  Since the early 2000’s, the Rams had been a big part of Motion for Kids (formerly project Angel Tree), and we should give credit to them for all they did for thousands of kids, along with the rest of us.

But now, in 2016, we needed to decide how we were going to still provide this uplifting Holiday Season boost for so many children.

Bar leaders got together and reached out to other leaders in St. Louis and found they shared a real interest in keeping Motion for Kids alive and strong.  With the support of the St. Louis Blues, St. Louis Cardinals, the Isaac Bruce Foundation, SLU, and Delaware North this tradition of compassion continues.  You may already know that Saint Louis University graciously and generously agreed to host MFK in 2016 and into the future.

This is a storybook ending for the seeming less than happy holiday outcome it could have been.   You can also show your support of this compassionate program by donating to Motion for Kids on the BAMSL website.

On behalf of the entire board of the St. Louis Bar Foundation, I want to wish you the happiest of holidays.  I also want to thank those of you who contributed in any way to this year’s Motion for Kids and to encourage all of you to pitch in next year!

Sincerely,

Paul N. Venker
